Obtaining a City of Black Jack Business License

When can I apply for a business license?

·         After your business has been inspected, and the commercial occupancy permit has been approved, the Public Works Department will forward your information to the City Clerk. You will receive notification that you may pick up your permit and pay for your business license.

Do I need a business license and a commercial occupancy certificate?

·         Pursuant to Ordinance 724 a business license and commercial occupancy permit is required.

How much does a business license cost?

·         The cost of the license depends on the type of business:

        Home Occupation: $ 30 per year

          Office/Services:     $ 60 per year

          Manufacturing:        $ 60 per year

          Retail:                  $ 60 per year

How often do I need to renew my business license?

·         You must renew your business license by June 30 of each year.  The renewal fee is the same as above.

How soon can I operate my business?

·         You can begin your business as soon as you have received your commercial occupancy permit and have paid for your business license. 

Do I have to display my business license?

·         Yes, the license must be carefully preserved (framed) and displayed in a visual area of your business. 

How do I get a sales tax identification number?       

·         Call the Missouri Department of Revenue, at  31.... Please be sure to state "Black Jack" as the city location to ensure accurate accounting of your sales tax.
